Prof. Sue Garreis

Dear Prof. Susan Garreis
Hello
Thank you for your reply and your corrections.

Would you like to live to be one hundred fifty years old if you were in good physical and mental health?
I don't know that I would. However, I would like to make it to one hundred in good physical and mental health. We'll see what's in the plan for me.
-> In America, there is a good environment to achieve one hundred years of age, because the medical system and doctors are very good.
In Vietnam, the health system has not been maximized.

When women cannot get pregnant, they must resort to the health system of your country.
> I am not sure that is what you meant to say.
The environment is polluted.
Most of the people ride motorcycles and the traffic accident rate is very high.

So people hardly reach 80 years old.
> Here is an interesting link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy.
> It has a World Health Organization life expectancy table by country. You are studying in the country with the best life expectancy for men! In this list The United States is number thirty-two in a field of one hundred ninety-three.
Is Chinese food popular in Japan? What about Vietnamese food? Thai food? All three are popular in the U.S., but Chinese is the most popular. What is your favorite Chinese food?
-> Yes, it is.

Chinese food is similar to those of my country.
I do not know about Thai food but it seems sour and spicy.
In Japan, the most popular is Japanese food, and the second is Chinese food.
My favorite Chinese food is Grilled dumplings.

> Potstickers are delicious! Once a Chinese neighbor of mine made potstickers in her kitchen. They were yummy! My favorite Chinese food is chicken with broccoli.

Where I am (mid-Atlantic region) there are four well-defined seasons. In other parts of the country the Spring and Fall seasons are less well-defined. It would be hard for me to live where there is only sun and rain. How hot does it get in your part of Vietnam in the summer?
-> I have lived acclimatization so it is not my hurdle.
When I came to Japan, The first year I had to adapt to changing climate, but now everything is ok.
I think if you live in Vietnam, you will adapt.
> I agree. The first year would be hard, though.
In Vietnam, year-round temperature ranges from 24 degrees C to 36 degrees C.

With best wishes
Nguyen Hung Thien

<Homework>

1. You can read about what I did over the summer break. The file is attached to this message.
-> Yes. I can manage to read this message. Thank you for telling me about your vacation.

2. You told me everything that you did over the summer break.
-> My summer vacation has nothing special. It just was part-time job and study.

3a. Find one web link that relates to something you want to do when you graduate from the university.
-> I am sorry; I had not thought about this problem yet.
I am confused about working in Japan or working in Vietnam.

3b. Explain how the web link relates to your graduation goal.

> You have a big decision to make. In America the decision often depends on where the jobs are. Good luck in your decision.

The next lesson is attached. In it we discuss the role of the CPA in American financial life and the role of the AICPA, a professional association for CPAs.
Also attached is a picture of my daughter's kittens. They have nothing to do with accounting. I just sent the picture because I have mentioned the kittens a few times. Do you have a favorite pet?
Over the weekend, my daughter and I went to a small town in Maryland to pick up my aunt and her friend. It was a two-hour drive to get there. The countryside was lovely. It is beginning to look like fall in those hills. My aunt is a Catholic nun. Her friend is also a Catholic nun. Her friend is the person who is in charge of the order of nuns worldwide. So she is like the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of an international company. Both my aunt and her friend are delightful people. I love being around them. They are cheerful and pleasant and funny. We four went to a local tea house and had a delicious lunch. The Tea Room is in a old house. The rooms and décor are interesting to look at while we have wonderful food. We had four different teas and we sampled each one. Bamboo tea was very good! After the luncheon, we drove to Baltimore-Washington airport. My aunt's friend had to go to Chicago for a meeting. She will return to Paris in a few days. After dropping my aunt's friend at the airport, we returned to my aunt's hometown. On the way, we stopped for a light dinner and ice cream at a diner. We had pumpkin ice cream, which was delicious. It is available only at this time of year. It was a wonderful day, with lots of laughter and good company.
